Directions to Cal Poly

NOTE: Parking permits can be obtained at the Visitor Information Booth at the south entrance to the campus. General use parking permits can be purchased at several vending machines placed in the larger lots on campus for $1.50. All directions below are intended to route you to the Visitor Information Booth at the south entrance to the campus. Parking permits are required Mon - Fri, 7:00am - 10:00pm and on Fridays from 7:00am until 5:00pm. All other parking rules are enforced 7 days per week, 24 hrs. per day.

By Car

From Los Angeles on Route 101...

Traveling north on route101 to San Luis Obispo:

• Go through much of San Luis Obispo and exit at the Grand Avenue/Cal Poly exit (see map inset).
• Turn left onto Grand Avenue and go (uphill) approximately 1/4 mile to the south entrance of the campus.
• Ahead on your right is the Cal Poly Visitor Information Booth.
• Here you can obtain a parking permit, campus map, and a warm greeting!

From San Francisco on Route 101...

Traveling south on route 101 to San Luis Obispo:

• As you approach San Luis Obispo, Exit the Fwy at Monterey Street (the first exit in SLO).
• Make a right turn, then an immediate left turn onto the frontage road (see map inset; you will be going the same direction you were on the Fwy).
• Go approximately 3 blocks to Grand Ave.
• Turn right (going uphill) and go approximately 1/4 mile to the south entrance of the campus.
• Ahead on your right is the Cal Poly Visitor Information Booth.
• Here you can obtain a parking permit, campus map, and a warm greeting!

From Monterey via Route 1, The Pacific Coast Highway...

(Directions to the Visitor Information Booth at the south entrance to the campus.)

Traveling south on highway 1:

• As you approach San Luis Obispo the first stop light on the edge of town is Highland Avenue (see map below).
• Turn left at Highland to enter the North-West entrance to the campus.
• Follow Highland Ave as it goes under the train tressel and into the lower parking lot area. Continue straight until you reach a stop sign.
• Turn right and go to the next stop sign.
• At the next stop sign turn left onto North Perimeter Drive and proceed until you reach the third stop sign (you will be going down hill).
• Turn left and proceed to the south entrance of the campus where you will find the Campus Information Booth.
• Here you can obtain a parking permit, campus map, and a warm greeting!

By Air

From San Luis Obispo Airport...

• When you exit the airport's main entrance, turn left onto Broad Street.
• Follow Broad Street into Downtown San Luis Obispo about 2.8 miles to Marsh Street.
• Turn right on Marsh Street and travel 5 blocks to Santa Rosa Street.
• Turn left on Santa Rosa and go 2 blocks to Monterey Street.
• Turn right on Monterey Street and go 6 blocks to Grand Avenue.
• Turn left onto Grand Avenue and proceed to the south entrance of the campus where you will find the Campus Visitor Information Booth.
• Here you can obtain a parking permit, campus map, and a warm greeting!
